Reports are coming in that one of the chicks fell off the building a couple of days ago. It was found being attacked by seagulls and has been taken elsewhere to be looked after and hopefully restored to full health. This is an area of concern as chicks have fallen off the building in previous years.
We understand that various organisations are quite concerned about the welfare of the chicks this year and within the last couple of days there have been visits by the RSPB, RSPCA and a representative of a bird rescue organisation.
Both parents and two chicks have been seen on the building today.
Both parents and two chicks have been flying today, we believe the third chick is recovering after her fall.
Good news!! Both parents and the three offspring have been spotted on top of Sussex Heights and flying around during the last few days, it appears that the chick that fell off has survived her ordeal.
This year the three chicks have all survived and left the nesting box earlier this month, never to return!! They are still to be seen in the area, often swooping over the West Pier looking for a snack!!
The chicks have had DNA samples taken to identify them in later life.
It is hoped that the parents will produce more chicks next year when a webcam might be installed to monitor the progress 24 hours a day.
