Brighton's smallest pub?
The "Hole in the Wall" or as it is more properly known "The Queensbury Arms" is to be found at the southern end of Queensbury Mews.
It is said to be named after the Marquess of Queensberry, famed for his boxing rules. He was the father of Lord Alfred Douglas who was notoriously involved with Oscar Wilde, much to the displeasure of the marquess.
The less formal name derives from the days when Royal Fusiliers stationed nearby would be served drinks through a hole in the wall.
A plaque on the front of the pub tells us that this is Brighton's smallest pub.
One of the world's most respected actors of all time, Lord (Laurence) Olivier, once drank half a bottle of champagne here wearing dark glasses and scruffy old clothes in order to avoid recognition!!
