PEOPLE living near Brighton's West Pier have objected to controversial plans for two large leisure pavilions on either side of it.
The scheme has been submitted by developers St Modwen to make restoring the historic pier a viable proposition.
Now the Regency Square Area Society has sent in its objections to Brighton and Hove City Council, which will decide the planning application.
Chairman Roger Hinton said: "We believe the development is far too large and will spoil the setting of the pier itself.
"We also believe it represents over-development on the seafront which should be kept open and uncluttered for people to wander and enjoy the sea views."
He said claims that people would be able to see through the new buildings, retaining views of the sea and the pier, were unfounded.
The buildings would be made of glass and it would be possible to see into them but not through them.
Mr Hinton is urging people in the neighbourhood to write individual letters opposing the scheme, adding to the 2,200 already sent to the council.
Last Friday, Save Our Seafront, an umbrella group against the planned pavilions, delivered 2,224 letters objecting to the scheme to Hove Town Hall.
The group predicted at least 500 more would rapidly follow. Campaigners stood outside the town hall with placards saying No Views Is Bad News and A Development Too Far.
