Opponents unveil pier proposal

CAMPAIGNERS against new seafront buildings will hold a special exhibition this weekend.

Developers St Modwen and the Brighton West Pier Trust have this week announced revised proposals for two new leisure buildings in King's Road on either side of the West Pier.

They say the development is needed to provide cash that will help restore the Victorian pier and keep it viable.

An exhibition is being staged by the developers of their plans prior to their consideration by the city council.

They say the scheme has been reduced in size and will be less intrusive.

But Save Our Seafront, which opposed the original scheme, does not like the revised version either.

It will be holding its own exhibition during the weekend at the Granville Hotel in King's Road opposite the pier tomorrow and Sunday from 9am until 8pm.

Spokeswoman Sue Paskins said it should show how any enabling development could be kept below the level of King's Road.

Brighton-based architect Nick Lomas has produced plans showing how this could be achieved.
