Part of West Pier collapses

At about 9.20am 29th December a walkway and part of what used to be the ballroom collapsed into the sea, splitting the pier in two.

No-one was injured and most of the debris has washed up on the beach, where hordes of souvenir hunters have been collecting it and taking it home!

Structural engineers have said that it will now be much harder to restore the pier.
