The Society

We are a group of people who live and work in and around Regency Square in the centre of Brighton.

According to the constitution our society's aims include:

  • Pursuing matters of common interest for local people
  • Preserving and improving the character and environment of the area
  • Encouraging good neighbourliness
  • Contributing to the life of the wider community in Brighton

Membership is open to anyone living or running a business in the area. Others are welcome to join as associates.

The Society is run by a committee and is involved in a wide variety of activities.

We publish a regular newsletter for members, past newsletters may be viewed on this site by visiting the newsletters section.

What the Society Does

Here are some examples of what the Society does:

  • We review planning applications for the area and send a representative to the Brighton and Hove Conservation Areas Advisory Committee. Our successes in this area include preventing the development of an office building which would have been visible above the roof line of the fine houses at the top of Regency Square.
  • We maintain pressure on local authorities to provide adequate levels of service for street cleaning, refuse collection, parking control etc.
  • We publish a regular newsletter for members.
  • We organise social events and meetings, including an annual general meeting at which the committee's report on the year is presented.
  • We raise money for the improvement of Regency Square. Our fund is almost £10,000 at present and this money will be contributed to the Brighton and Hove Council's regeneration project.

The Society's Area

The Society represents a densely populated conservation area in the heart of Brighton, opposite the West Pier. The area is bounded:

  • On the south by Kings Road (the seafront),
  • On the east by Cannon Place,
  • On the north by Western Road and
  • On the west by Little Preston Street.

If you live or run a business in this area you can join the Society. You will be welcome as an associate member if you live outside the area.
